LondonSkaters Speed Team was recently competing at the British Champs on track on the 6 and 7 July 2024.
Tatem Park track hosted more than 100 speed skaters for this event.
The weekend started under the rain, a lot of rain. So much rain that the Federation's electronic timing system could not operate for the first events, due to electrical safety reasons. FISS changed the programme to run the longest distances to be raced first. On Saturday afternoon, the weather suddenly improved, the track started to dry, finally allowing the shorter race distances to happen!
The second day started with better weather, but it didn't last long, the 500m and team relay races were cancelled and the podium ceremony was convened early, just before the storm hit heavy!
These hard conditions didn't discourage Marcel and Ferran who were racing the Championships for the first time, and they did really well: Marcel qualified for the Final in the 200m time trial! What an encouraging first time!
LSST skaters managed to win many medals:
Sara in senior category: 1st of the 200m 🥇, 5000m in line 🥇, 5000m point race🥇 and 1000m🥇!
Fabricio in senior category: 2nd in the 200m 🥈!
Stephanie in master category: 1st of 5K point race🥇, 3rd in 3000m🥉
Daniel in master category: 1st in 5000m Points🥇 and in 1000m🥇 & 2nd in 5000m 🥈!
